THE ADVENT BUILDING TEAM

David Copeland, President

David was born in Charleston, SC, and grew up in Raleigh, NC, where he began working for his father, Glenn, at Copeland Construction Company as soon as the law would allow. He literally began at the bottom, digging footings and cleaning out crawlspaces, and over time touched every tool involved in all phases of construction as his father taught him how to build homes piece by piece. From him David inherited and learned a passion for building and doing it the right way, the first time, as well as respect for every person involved in the process.

In 2002, the same year he married his gorgeous and talented wife Amy, David moved to Wilmington, NC.

Amy happened to be the daughter of Samm Jernigan, longtime custom home builder, and David jumped at the opportunity to work and learn underneath his father-in-law. Working as Project Manager, VP Production, and head of marketing for Jernigan Homes, David learned the intricacies of the homebuilding business, the construction details that make for a long-lasting, high quality structure, but more than anything, how to build a high caliber team of top professionals.

In 2011, in the midst of the Great Recession, David started Advent Building Corporation, focused on bringing the skills and concepts learned from his father and father-in-law and a multitude of trade partners into his own company.

David’s greatest loves are Jesus, his ridiculously great family, his church, his dog, and time spent with friends eating a good meal.

Amy Copeland, Treasurer

Born in Augusta, GA, Amy was still young when her family moved to Wilmington, NC to help with a church plant in the midst of a revival. Her father, Samm Jernigan, and grandfather Ben Jernigan, earned a reputation as custom home builders of the highest degree. Amy considered going into real estate to be involved in the family business, instead choosing to enter the medical field. Amy attended UNC Wilmington, and transferred to UNC Chapel HIll, from which she graduated with a degree in Medical Laboratory Science.

Amy moved back to Wilmington in 2002 and started a family with her new husband, David Copeland. Some years later, with a handful of career advancements and three insanely cute and capable children in tow, Amy helps with the financial management and high level planning for Advent Building Corporation.
