Why the name Advent?

One question I get often is, “why the name Advent, what does that mean?”

I think this is a fair question, and the answer is multi-layered.

Eons ago, when I was choosing a name for my general contracting, there was a book of knowledge, a book that held the collective information of the community, a book that was necessary to be recognized by the people, a book so important that, without it, a business could barely exist. We called it “The Phonebook.” In “The Phonebook” were the “Yellow Pages”. In this volume, all names and businesses were listed in alphabetical order, so I wanted a name that began with the letter A.

Beyond this, I wanted a name that felt solid, and that communicated something about myself. “Advent” is, in my opinion, a word that feels complete and has presence by itself, and has Christian undertones, which resonated with me.

A definition of advent that caught my attention was “the arrival of something that has been long awaited.” This spoke to me on several levels, one being that I had wanted to own my own design-build firm since I was a child, another being the connotation of the arrival of Jesus Christ at his birth, which is the definition by which most of the Christian world recognizes the word, and also the promise of the Holy Spirit, which I am particularly interested in. What has become more and more meaningful about “advent” to me is in being able to see my client’s visions and ideas come to life through the course of a construction project. It is an anticipated thing arriving in real time, and it is so much fun to be able to be a part of it.

If you’re looking, thinking, wishing, to build a new home, a new office, or to renovate or remodel your current home or place of business, it would be my joy to partner with you to bring your ideas to life.
